Salman Waris

Salman Waris LL.M. (U.K), is currently a Partner with TechLegis Advocates & Solicitors and heads the firm’s TMT and IP practice groups. He regularly advises on legal/regulatory issues concerning technology, IP, telecommunications, next generation networks, data protection/ privacy, outsourcing (IT/ Business Processes/ LPO), M&A and joint ventures.

Mr. Waris has been recommended byInternational Financial Law Review Leading Lawyers (TMT), AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers Guide, AsiaLegal500, Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Information Technology Lawyers, International Who’s Who of Internet & e-Commerce Lawyers and Guide to the World’s Leading Emerging Markets Practitioners for his work. This year Mr. Waris has been awarded the FINANCE MONTHLY GLOBAL AWARDS 2014- Regulatory Advisor of the Year for India.

He is currently Vice-chair of the International Technology Law Association, Data Protection Committee and a member of the “Task Force on Internet and Cyber Security” at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis, besides, being part of the DATA SECURITY COUNCIL OF INDIA (DSCI) – Thought Leadership Development Program. He is also involved with pro bono work as a mentor to several technology stratups at ‘The Hatch’- a virtual incubator setup by Angel Investors Consortium.

He is a member of industry bodies like the International Media Lawyers Association, NASSCOM Emerge, TiE, IT Policy Compliance Group (IT-PCG) U.S.A and has been actively involved with the International Trade Mark Association- Internet Committee, American Bar Association- IP Law Section, Virtual Worlds & Computer Gaming Committee.

Mr. Waris is a regular speaker at industry conferences and has trained officers of the Indian Army and the Delhi Police on Cybercrime and Cyber law related issues.
